hello, I don't know how to help you with the problem with the flatpak version, however the version that can be installed from the first tab of the MX package installer works fine and behaves as you described

There are some Open Source Spotify Clients on Flathub. Try these;

1) https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.KRTirtho.Spotube

2) https://flathub.org/apps/dev.alextren.Spot

Just FYI - not all of these may be "spotify clients" as at least one uses youtube as it's music source.

I can not answer your specific question.
And maybe you want Spotify as a flatpak, but Spotify should be available in MXPI→ Popular App – Audio
and it should also show as "spotify-client" in the Enabled tab, and probably in Synaptic too – at least it does in MX-21.3 Xfce.
I'd use it before installing a flatpak – again, unless you want a flatpak for some reason.
