Either install 'avahi-discover' (in the MX menu as 'Avahi Zeroconf Browser') or if your printer is on WiFi a WiFi scanner such as 'WiFi Analyzer' will do.

On the Printer display - Device Settings | LAN Settings should show you... and if not, then print the network settings as described here:

Please remember to encase long tracts like this in code tags which makes the output easier to read and navigate.
also I remove your All Caps --> it's bad form to yell.

Maybe try arp-scan( to be installed):
e.g on wired:

Code: Select all

sudo arp-scan --interface=eth0 --localnet
on wireless eth0 -> wlan0

Hello jbander

I may have misunderstood your question, but I believe you are asking how you can find out the IP address that your gateway router has assigned to your printer.
  • You need to login to your gateway router and inspect the information tab concerning assigned IP addresses
Note:
Some home users prefer to assign a static (i.e. permanent) IP address to their network printer. Consult the available documentation for your gateway router and printer.

Glossary
gateway router - the router which connects your home network to the internet.

I hope you found this helpful.

It took about 6 seconds to find the info you need. You only need to know what services are built into the printer, and for that matter, most any network capable printer.

The answer is straight from the printers users manual, which should be the first place all users should be looking for anything about their printer.

search query = ts700 print network reports

The page you need ....

You have not stated if you followed the directions. I am literally just copying and pasting from the link given:
Check that printer is turned on.

Load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.

Press Setup button.

The Setup menu screen appears.

Select Device settings and press OK button.

Select LAN settings and press OK button.

Select Print LAN details and press OK button.

The printer starts printing the network setting information.

The following information on the printer's network setting is printed out. (Some setting values are not displayed depending on the printer settings.)
Read, understand, and follow the instructions of the equipment you have purchased. You paid the company to write them, may as well use them.

Two questions:

1) for what do you need to know your printer's IP Address?

2) Is this printer connected to your PC with a USB cable (Avahi results seem to suggest it)?

So that the printer can be found when I print from my Motorola cell phone. I'm using Mopria print . it is showing in wifi listing in Mopria but it still won't print from the cell phone. The canon ts702a doesn't have bluetooth you use Mopria instead. I couldn't get Mopria to see the printer unless I hooked it up by USB

Slight problem I have no clue what that even means. Don't know what long information is and Have no clue what code tags are.

Your very first post and then again in post #7 you posted a bunch of text .

When you have a lot of text to post, like what you posted, put it in code tags. ( Fifth button in on the top of the editor where you pasted that text. It looks like this </> and creates two code tags you need to use. (it was done for you in post #1 )

Try enabling "Wireless Direct" aka Airprint on your printer. The printer should self-assign an IP address independent of your Wireless Router.

Also, see if your phone can access any other network share/object/services hosted by MX Linux by IP Address.

It may be your phone has a permission level to enable such actions. Frequently hit on tethered networking, Bluetooth, and KDE Connect file transfers.

If your MX Linux Uncomplicated Firewall is enabled ports 631 & 515 are for printing and may need exception rules (or temporarily disable it). Info in MX User Manual section 4.5.1.

NOTE: The above should be done with the USB cable to the printer DISCONNECTED.

If "WSD Printing" aka Workstation-Discovery aka mDNS is disabled that may be why the Avahi result was not showing address= for your printer.

This is what finally worked. ij.start.canon Thanks for all the help. This allowed me to print to the canon ts702a from my cell phone.
