[Request] update Easyeffects to ver 7.1.3 (currently not feasable)

#1 Post by TheBestKmanEver »

i would like to see EasyEffects get updated from 7.0.0-1 to 7.1.3 as the flatpak version is slow when it comes to using the native LSP window for EQing
see following git issue that i have posted for EasyEffects https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects/issues/2858

It's infeasible, even on a Bookworm base, since it now requires GTK 4 (>= 4.10), and we only have 4.8.

7.1.3 is in Debian Trixie and Sid, so it is still being maintained in upstream Debian.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Looking at its changelog, it appears the change occurred between the 7.0.1 already in bookworm-backports and the next 7.0.7 that Debian packaged.

Code: Select all

easyeffects (7.0.7-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * debian/rules:
    + Explicitly disable rnnoise (See 7.0.1-1~exp1 changes).
  * debian/control:
    + Add new build-dependency libsoundtouch-dev.
    + Drop build-dependency libspeex-dev, not needed by upstream.
    + Indicate that we need GTK 4 (>= 4.10).
  * debian/copyright: Correct project license to be GPL-3.0-or-later.

easyeffects (7.0.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Upload to unstable.
  * Upload v7.0.1 for now, until 7.0.1 is backported to bookworm-backports.

So, you can currently get 7.0.1 easily with MXPI in the Backports tab.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

What is Debian policy on moving packages from backports? Is there a chance that we will get upgraded GTK or will have to wait for Debian 13 or some 12.x release?

core stuff like gtk and qt, glibc, etc will not be upgraded to new versions during the life of a release of debian stable. Unless it's a small patch for some security issues.

It's not a rolling release. If those things change, every other package that relies on that will have to change. That's what happens in rolling distros.
