which one is the fastest web browser on linux?
I have used firefox ESR on my mx 23.1 xfce but when switching tabs, it lags for 10-20 sec. I installed brave and the problem does not occur in brave browser. Should i use brave instead or is there any browser better than it?
Re: which one is the fastest web browser on linux?
The hardware that our users have at hand varies so greatly that only you can make that judgement. There are eleven different browsers available in MXPI that you can try.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Try disabling Hardware Acceleration on Firefox.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

I use Firefox and Brave browser. I switch between them because the same extensions on both browsers act a little different at times. By that I mean, some web sites work better with FF and some work better with Brave. I like them both.
I have used SeaMonkey before because I love the nostalgic look of the old Netscape Navigator. Call me old fashioned, but my introduction to surfing the web was more pleasant using Netscape than IE. Wish Netscape would make a comeback.

+1 for siamhie comment. That works on both FF and Brave too.

I have always used firefox on mx...i run firefox in ram and it runs like a rocket...i see no viable reason to use another browser.I have employed a few about:config tweaks also.

Hello, dotw,
I am amazed that so far not-one has asked you to provide your Quick System Info. So let me do so: share your QSI with us, please.
1. Click on Quick System Info in MX Tools
2. Right click in your post and paste.
Your QSI might give a hint perhaps, why Firefox on your system is slower than to be expected.
What you might try in order to get closer to the root cause of a slow Firefox is this:
1. create another MX Linux user.
2. log in to MX Linux as this second user.
3. Launch Firefox and test, whether Firefox is more responsive under the second user's account than under the first user's account
In case Firefox working under the second user's account is faster and more responsive, then the root cause for your slow Firefox is something inside your personal Firefox userprofile.
In this case you may have to create a new thread about your slow Firefox in another appropriate sub-forum, because this here is a chat sub-forum.

+1 for Seamonkey! Not for nostalgia, but because it's simple and awesome. It does what both Firefox and Thunderbird do, yet with thousands fewer lines of code than Firefox by itself. I think it ought to be the default browser for "lightweight" Linux distros.

Re: which one is the fastest web browser on linux?
There probably is no definitive answer; as someone else in this thread pointed out, much depends on your hardware so that one man's fast browser may be another man's snail.
That said, let me voice my profound disappointment with the fact that for me - I have used Firefox/Librewolf for donkeys years - Brave is by far the fastest browser. On some websites, it's up to three times as fast in terms of rendering content. I find that intensely annoying since it is Chrome-based; and anyone with any self-respect ought to stay away from that. And yes - for a while, I valiantly ignored Brave's speed advantage, and stuck with Mozilla, arguing that (comparatively) slow rendering was made up for by watching it from high moral ground. In the end, though, I caved in, and am currently finding Brave an excellent solution. I must say I'm deeply annoyed with myself for being such a shameful opportunist, and wanted to take this opportunity of confessing publicly
