In MX23, under MX Package Installer -> Popular Applications -> Kernels I can find Kernel 6.5.6 64bit (AHS).

However when I start installing/uninstalling it Package Installer will report it as v6.5.0.

Am I missing something?

Package version verses kernel version.

But the 6.5.6 might still be wrong I need to check. At one time we were bumping the kernel package and I might have changed the label but didn’t change it back when the kernel didn’t make it into the repo.

The package being install is correct though and the same on the shipping Ahs iso.

I just sent up packages for MX 21 and 23 AHS repos of backports of the upstream Sid 6.5.8 (6.5.0-3mx-ahs) kernel for i386 and amd64 platforms. That's the latest Debian style kernels we have there. Liquorix kernels are roughly equal at the moment in AHS, too, but use a different and much less complex style of packaging layout.

A reminder that ahs kernels do not auto-update. Users that want an auto-updating kernel should stick with the standard releases and the debian stable kernel (currently 6.1.0-2 debian package – 6.1.52 kernel version)
From Blog article: https://mxlinux.org/uncategorized/linux ... epository/

@dolphin_oracle or all the developers
I don't understand this correctly, sorry.
What does this mean?
If I do nothing, I'm always on this kernel build? No fixes, etc...
It will not updated from system?

What's best practice?
Switch to standard release? ckeck for new kernal manually with a reminder?2

Thank you very much

you can always update manually. it just won't auto-update.

thanks
Was that already the case with the previous ahs versions?

You could install the Liquorix kernel and header metapackages and get automatic updates for those (along with possible borkage if you are using out-of-kernel drivers that we haven't been able to update yet for new kernels)

But reverting to a previously working kernel is always an option at boot.
