ran int errors uninstalling software, and noticed this Mulvey VPN tried to remove. I am a greenhorn so not sure what of make of this

This sounds like you didn't install it? If that is the case, my recommendation would be to reinstall immediately because MX does not install VPNs by default.
Otherwise, you can try using MX Package Installer --> Popular Apps to remove it.
