MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
This thread is for feedback and issue reports MX-23 RC 3 (KDE)
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-lin ... sting/KDE/
Be sure to include the quick-system-info with your report.
If posting nvidia-installer (ddm-mx) issues, please post the contents of /var/log/ddm.log.
If posting remaster issues, please include the contents of /var/log/live/live-remaster.log
If posting installer issues, please include the contents of /var/log/minstall.log
If posting issues with MX-PackageInstaller “Popular Apps”, please post contents of /var/log/mxpi.log or /var/log/mxpi.log.old (whichever contains the log of your issue).
By the way, the gui for quick-system-info now has a pretty nice log viewer function.
if posting about an application, please be specific on what application.

Re: MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
Hi, @dolphin_oracle,
thanks to the team for the hard work.
First try: went very nice.
It was on a setup with two separate BTRFS partitions, each on LUKS. Each partition contains one subvolume (@, @home). LUKS containers were created by mx-install.
Seems working, except Timeshift seems forced to use another (dm-1) partition, it is weird though, because in log it sees dm-0 device, where the root is.
Later I will try the same, but with only one partition with two subvolumes on it.
Thank you in advance.
Andy

Please share QSI as intended in the software, not as attachment, thanks :)

Re: MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
I have thought in QSI the button "save information selected... to an archive file" is intended exactly for that purpose, as QSI info is all there.Eadwine Rose wrote: Sun Jul 23, 2023 1:48 pm Please share QSI as intended in the software, not as attachment, thanks :)
minstall.log and other logs I have attached are important as well, are they?
the subsequent installs will be on the same HW.
This install was just like previous one, with the exception, the root and home subvolume were on the same BTRFS filesystem.
edit: just forget to write the result: install fine, Timeshift still insisting that root partition is the other one, not chosen to use in this install.
Will try to delete it.

Re: MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
Installs fine on HP desktop, intel 4th gen in EFI mode, with windows detected and present on grub menu on reboot. Looks real fine, thanks for the hard work.
some small remarks:
some small remarks:
- installer did not pick *any* ESP partition by itself, is this as intended ?
- grub background is still MX21's, is this as intended ?
- i think a default menu shortcut to "system settings" would be useful ("add to favourites", can't remember if i added it myself in MX21)
Re: MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
Third install: recycled both LUKS containers created from previous install. (FS Formatted during install).
This feature - ability to use precreated LUKS containers is very important.
Thank you.
Otherwise, no other things tested (yet).
Timeshift still not recognizes root, I will wait patiently for making Timeshift snapshots working.
Regards,
Andy

Re: MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
Hello,
first serious problem:
Yesterday I have installed 6.3 kernel, turned my laptop off. Today I have booted it at morning, do some light browsing, then close the lid, move it to another place, opened the lid and the laptop is frozen.
Blackscreen (no backlight), numlock stuck.
I have to do forced restart. Which logs do you want?
(I have encountered similair behaviour in RC2, default kernel, after the same treatment, always.)
Edit: restarted, attached logs.

Re: MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
Both in RC2 and now in RC3, the icons of all the folders are not shown correctly, only those of the personal folder correspond to the theme, I attach 2 images, one of how they are seen in MX 21.3 KDE and another of how they are shown in MX 23 RC- KDE.

Re: MX-23 RC3 (KDE) Feedback Thread
Installed RC3 on all new hardware last night without issue. I noticed vs RC2 this version of the installer is a bit more polished. QSI below if you're interested.
A few issues I have noticed with RC2 that I am continuing to investigate w/RC3:
The logout screen looks "squished". Less so than it was RC2 (from memory) but still a bit off. I'm using 16x10 monitors wich might contribute.
I cannot get on board SPDIF audio to work (analog outs work fine). I assume at this time my MB is just too new. Oddly SPDIF shows as an option in all the audio GUIs but it doesn't show in alsamixer. One noticeable difference with the on board audio is it is connected via USB instead of PCIe, which seems like an unusual architecture choice. Audio from the on board AMD GPU is working fine though.
EDIT: This is a known issue with the audio chipset, realtek ALC4080. It seems it is problematic even on Windows. As best I can tell, even though it's been out for a couple years now there is not a standard way to address all it's features. There are several open issues currently at https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-ucm-conf/issues.
I can't get a custom color theme to "stick". Normally I use the Breeze Dark theme but change the color of window title bars to make the active window stand out in a sea of other grey windows. If I make the change and save it, pick the modified theme nothing happens. This is a plasma issue with a workaround available, but untried by me as of yet.
