About MX-23 Theme song?

#1 Post by Freja »

First, this is not a story that started within the team.
It's kind of like my vague long-time dream.

A long time ago, Sony's PC "VAIO" in the 90's to 00's used an impressive theme song for TVCM.
The Spinners "Could it be I'm Falling in Love".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3DvMOTw2Uk

Apple too, has long used theme songs for important product commercials.

It is a dreamy proposal, but there are some hurdles.

1. Copyright. It is preferable to obtain permission directly from the author.
2. Usage Fees. The author must be get paid.
3. Music Usage. Making a MX-23 featured MusicVideo?
Or put it in the music folder?
4. Hardware. For example, StarLite latest type.
In that case, negotiations with Starlabs will be necessary.

This is still a vague possibility, but
We can search for songs with lyrics and atmosphere that match the MX-23.
I look forward to hearing your opinions.
In the world filled desire,
I seek only essence, serve for MX.
I just needing only ideal in the art at all.
I want to protect place of rest called MX LINUX. :coffee:

@Freja

The first thing that comes to mind is royalty free music searches with either mp3 and or MP4. and the genre of music and then the choices of MP4 :duh:

The genre of music would a poll be needed after MX-23 released ?

Although it's pleasantly different idea, a mp3 and or MP4 for a Linux distro, would that be a Linux first ?

This is one of those 'we can but should we?' questions. Personally, I fail to see any benefit and a lot of aggravation in doing so. I vote no.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Also The "Amazing music thread" is famous MX thread.
We love music anytime, so simply I want to ask to forum "theme song is needed for MX?"
But some people say "music is unnecessary and unpleasant in the OS."
it's difficult.

I know it's a bit of a stupid proposition.
Maybe I'm too passionate.

Some people sprinkle salt on chocolate some don't, Personal choices and tastes are not always going to match up with one person to another person.
I know I'm the new guy with respect for others can I say this
I would go for something in the content (context?) of Hurri-Mitanni by Ilhan Ersahin if you're not familiar check it out on link below.
awesome clip anything in that style in my opinion would go into the classic timeless branding light and very funky Oh Grandma's dancing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2Uiefb3oWw -->|< NOTE Palemoon goes to YT video, the video does not load up - Firefox goes to and loads / plays video.

Oops just went to YT to get the link ( I've got alot of Ilhan Ersahin's music only no videos tooo distracting when working ( work from home studio apartment ) , posting this and going back to YT

My comment should not be construed as a condemnation of music. My problem is that, for me, "theme song" invokes a connotation of crass commercialization a la McDonalds "you deserve a break to day" or "let Hertz put you in the driver's seat today". This is not a path that I think MX needs to follow.

Perhaps the song selection is very important for that.

I think also Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson are commercial, but gospel and minor rock might fit MX.

MX must never be polluted by commercialism.

If we choose MX’s music,
We have to choose lyrics mean and mood carefully. :playviolin:

Just another thought mood is incredibly important at the same time though do we really need lyrics that can become outdated.
commercialism is a rancid can of worms that should never be in MXLinux just like other things that don't belong in Linux especially MXLinux .
