No Audio From Webcam Mic [SOLVED]

#1 Post by Kestrel »

This seems to be a recent issue as it worked fine in the past. Video output from the webcam is still fine but no sound at all. I've tried two webcams (Trust and Logitech) and the problem is there on both, I tried both of them on another machine running Mint and the audio is present there so this rules out an issue with the webcams hardware. i guess something in a recent update might have broken something. Full system info below. Any help gratefully appreciated,

Is your webcam showing as a input device in the volume control?

You should see it both in the Configuration tab as well as the Input tab.

My logitech doesnt show any output device for it until there is sound actually coming through.

Just FYI – I believe that Pulse Audio Volume Control (pavucontrol) will not show any output devices unless "sound" is being received by PAVU.
Caveat – it may show them after it has been selected as a source for a particular device, not sure, but again I'm almost certain that it will show if it hasn't been selected before unless sound is available.

Yes it is showing in both the configuration and input tabs. Should I select/tick the "Set as fallback" box?

Nope, next is to get some sound going in the room and verify that the mic is working fine.

If you have zoom, just go to the settings and test the mic, watching for the volume control and see where / what it is doing. And then I would do the same thing with sound and make sure that is a) showing in the volume control - when your testing it and b) what that volume is showing in the volume control.

Does it show up as an input you can switch to if you install and run indicator-sound-switcher?

The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Maybe the kernel (You can simply try the most recent 6.x one from MXPI)

(... Or boot with those < 5.10.0-23 via Advanced Options on Grub ... )

It does. The radio button to select it wasn't switched "on" (if that makes sense). I have now clicked/selected the radio button next to it. It seems it does not remain selected permanently but clicking refresh seems to switch to it again i.e the radio button becomes highlighted again as if its been clicked. I'll go and test it now on the real-life applications I mentioned before such as the test video recording that failed before.
