System hanging occasionally

well as this MIGHT be close to my issue, can't find it on the forums.
I am experiencing my system hanging occasionally .. the mouse still works, but can't click on anything, keyboard doesn't seem to work either.
I think I was able to track down the problem and have seen posts online about this and it seems the issue was supposed to be resolved with Kernel 6

you can try disabling the tpm module.

make a file in /etc/modprobe.d called 'tpm-blacklist.conf' with the following contents:

Code: Select all

blacklist tpm
and reboot. that should prevent the tpm kernel driver from loading.

Before doing the blacklist tpm, have you checked your BIOS first? You should update your BIOS as the latest one shows as v331 and it seems you're running v313.

Your BIOS;

Code: Select all

Machine: Type: Laptop System: ASUSTeK product: ROG Strix G513QC_G513QC v: 1.0 serial: <filter>
Mobo: ASUSTeK model: G513QC v: 1.0 serial: <filter> UEFI: American Megatrends LLC. v: G513QC.313 date: 03/29/2022
The latest BIOS available for your machine;

Code: Select all

BIOS for ASUS EZ Flash Utility
Version 331
7.99 MB  ---> Date 2023/03/30
The description for the new 331 BIOS says;

Code: Select all

(UEFI is a firmware package that controls keyboard, monitor, disk and other hardware devices and provides software interface to help OS control hardware devices.)

Important Information:
Optimize system performance
In short, I would update BIOS, and if that does not help, then you can try the blacklist option above. Just my 2 cents.

@razor2021 Yes just did the BIOS update. I have double the framerate in handbrake, initially seems to have solved the issue, but I'm hoping.
Guess there is some use for keeping windows for such issues.. If issue recurs I will start a new thread as suggested. just took me awhile to remember how to flash BIOS as I don't exactly do that everyday. Thanks again for the patience and great support.

Ok, great. You don't need windows to update bios when using ez flash. You can go into Bios and update from there if you have a usb stick for Bios storage. At least mine doesn't. Hope it works out. Good luck.
