HUGE display resolutions 21.3 KDE Wild Flower

Display resolutions seem generally pretty buggy. I did a search thru past posts but didnt come up with much that seems relevant.

Native rez f my 13" laptop is 1920 x 1080. The startup screen ends up with a password menu so tiny I cant even see what I am typing.

Once I do get booted up, the browser text content, app menus and content are all over the place sizewise. I have been thru the system and browser display settings and with some tweaking can usually get things to a viewable size, but nothing is persistent.

I booted a GParted live usb and the same thing happens - this is REALLY bad cuz there are detailed commands in what ends up being a postage stamp size menu.

Any insights / idea toward resolving the issues described here are very much appreciated!

When posting Quick System info. Click in QSI "Copy for Forum". Then just paste in your post. It will present the data in a compact scrollable pane, so as not to take up a lrge part of the post.

Try System Settings > Display and Monitor > Display and set the Resolution and possibly Global Scale. It will probably take a few trials with different settings to get the display to a comfortable readable size.

I had a similar problem with my new laptop and I got some great help in this thread of mine:

Thanks@j2mcgreg your post reference helps to an extent, mainly the content after os bootup.

When my GParted live usb boots I am presented with a series of prompts / options in a series of teenie tiny menu's which I am able to work around (albeit rather inconveniently) using a reading glass. I think we are deaing with POST / firmware elements or at least purposely rather basic visual contents of of the gparted software I def didnt see any menu's with options pertaining to changing the visuals.

I have several other older laptops lying around that have been revived by installing MX on them I dont recall having these display issues so I will try those - I just really need one machine or another with enough usb ports for the gparted live usb (or maybe a different utility disk) and the external SATA HDD I am trying to recover.

Its ironic I have the display issues on my nicest laptop of all its a pretty upscale Dell XPS but none of the old crappy had-been-retired laptops LOL

My work laptop is Dell XPS 15 9510 and it has a 4k display so login page is not really usable.
Here's the script I used to downsize it to 1920x1080 (you can change it to 1600x900 or whatever resolution you are comfortable with):

First check monitors with:

(laptop display is probably eDP-1)

Then open /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup and add:

xrandr --output eDP-1 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal

(change the resolution to your preferred)
Save!

Next, open /etc/sddm.conf and add:

DisplayCommand=/usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup

Save and reboot.

I did all this and the boot screen for MX looks better - thanks :)
Not sure if related or not but now I am getting the ps-mouse -5 error mentioned in another post recently in this same KDE forum. https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=74327

I am able to get up n running by waiting for the prompt to hit CTL-D at which time the system boots successfully.

I have disabled the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in and everything seems to work ok otherwise.
