Request: Upgrade 'pitivi 2020.09' to latest 2022.06

#1 Post by wdscharff »

Video Editor PiTivI. An old version (2020.09) is in the MXPI, the current version is 2022.06 (many new features and bugfixes), which is available as a flatpak.

Pitivi as a flatpak occupies > 2.5GB harddisk space, which is quite a lot even for a flatpak.

the tarball 2022.06 is here

2022.06 should be in the MX 21 test repo shortly.

can only be started via console, gives error messages.
I could not find all the missing files in synaptics.
programme starts, can't load project files of the older and current flatpak version ... and finally crashes

Code: Select all

$ pitivi
Fehlende weiche Abhängigkeit:
- cvtracker GStreamer element not found on the system
    -> enables object tracking
Fehlende weiche Abhängigkeit:
- librosa wurde nicht auf dem System gefunden
    -> enables beat detection functionality

Is this in Fluxbox?

Those aren't errors, they are letting you know about some missing optional features that it can't find the programs for, but it should still work.

It still starts up for me from the menu or the terminal. The GSound warning can be eliminated by installing gir1.2-gsound-1.0.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu

Yes, in Fluxbox
I had already fixed the GSound warning, but not the other two problems.
And the fact that it can't open the project files of the Flatpak version (i.e. the same release) is more than a little annoying (with more than half a dozen half-finished projects).

The difference in size can be frightening, the flatpak version needs around 3GB, the *.deb around 4-500mb.
On the other hand, the size doesn't matter if something doesn't work.
Since Pitivi is a niche application, I wouldn't go any further. The development cycles are almost as fast as xfce :)
But there is already a developer version (22.06.1) that runs without problems, at least on my test system. But it is again a flatpak

Since I don't have time for experiments this month, I'm running the normal Flatpak version again.

cvtracker is supposed to be in the gstreamer "bad" plugins set, but I have it installed, so it may be that Debian removes it.

I haven't been able to find anything about librosa yet...
