Canon TS5359a wifi Printer prints but not detected by Scanners

#1 Post by Shay123 »

Hello,
Sorry, yet another printer tale of head scratching.

I have setup the printer and the drivers scangearmp2 and cnijfilter2 are shown in Synaptic
A windows machine can print and scan but the MX machine prints only The Scanner is not recognised
I have three icons showing in the Print Settings window

Canon-TS5350a default
Canon_TS5350_seried
Generic-CUPS-BRF-Printer

Me and the system are missing a link somewhere but I need pointing in the right direction please? :)

Though it already prints and you already installed ScanGear:

IJ Printer Driver Ver. 5.90 for Linux (debian Packagearchive)
File version: 5.90 Release date: 16 March 2022
This software is a printer driver for printing using the Canon IJ printer.

ScanGear MP Ver. 3.90 for Linux (debian Packagearchive)
File version: 3.90 Release date: 16 March 2022
This is a scanner driver for your selected model.

If the printer has a static IP, then do the following and see if the scanner gets detected.

sudo edit the file --> /etc/sane.d/xerox_mfp.conf:

Look for your printer name - example;

#Samsung CLX-3180 Series: Samsung CLX 3185
tcp 192.168.0.111 # <--- add this tcp line for the static IP
usb 0x04e8 0x343d

save the file. Run scanner and see if it detects the scanner.

Hello again
Huck, thanks but as stated, the printer and scanner drivers are already installed - I assume that their presence, marked as installed in synaptic proves the case?

razor2021, thanks it is something like this I need but I got a "permission denied"
when using the sudo command above. I was not asked for the super-user password either. Will try and solve that and come back to this asap.

Okay so I navigated to the /etc/ manually and looked for relevant files in the saned folder

There was no specific folder for the TS5350a only four Canon folders
canon.conf
has a scsi reference,

canon630u.conf
specific for a 630 printer

canonu.conf
lists several printers but nothing resembling mine

canonpp.conf
Seems to lay out the parameters for making a configuration file

I did find a pixma.conf file but it seems to have only general advice on making a .conf file? I assume from a layman's point of view this means my printer /scanner is recognised (3 icons in printer settings) but not configured - no specific .conf file?

pixma.conf
# pixma.conf configuration for the sane pixma backend
#
# bjnp-timeout=5000
# Specify the timeout (in ms) to be used for all the folllowing
# scanners.
# May be specified multiple times.
# The last value (if any) will be used for auto-detection
#
# define URI's of scanners (one per line)
# This is only used for network scanners.
# normally scanners will be detected by sending a broadcast
# if this does not work under your OS, or if the scanners
# are on a different subnet, configure your scanners URI here
#
# method must be bjnp
# port number can normally be left out, port 8612 is used as default
# The timeout parameter sets a timeout value for the scanner on
# the same line
# Example:
# bjnp://myscanner.my.domain:8612 // uses the default 1000ms timeout
# bjnp-timeout=5000
# bjnp://printer-1.pheasant.org // will use the 5000 ms timeout
# bjnp://scanner.bad-network.org/timeout=1500 // timeout set to 1500 ms
# bjnp-timeout=3000 // will be used for auto-detected scanners
#

Not sure if you went to the correct location. The folder is "sane.d". In the folder sane.d, there is a file called xerox_mfp.conf

Yes, I know, I just thought maybe you compare versions.

[Huckleberry Finn, yes, thanks, you are right. Iit was good to check versions I should have thought of that, sorry.

razor2021
yes I went to the xerox file first and it didn't seem relevant - see below? I also missed the dot out of the folder name.
I assumed that because it was an example I had to go and look in the relevant file?
All the entries here have USB references and I am trying to connect via wifi?
Below is the content of my xerox.conf file:

#xerox_mfp.conf
# all entries are sorted in USB IDs numerical order
