(Edit: It seems they used zstd for this deb)

Yes, "Keymapper" is already in repos, but this might be useful for users:

I've just installed this in an attempt to designate one of the "dead" keys on my keyboard as Alt-Gr but (I think) because the key is not currently active, I can't press it to change it in input remapper.

Is there an idiot's guide to doing this, either with this or another bit of software?

I have three spare keys between my space bar and my right Control key, and would like to use one of them for this.

Any help much appreciated!

It would probably be best to move your question out to the help area and also going to need your QSI and a little better understanding of what you installed. (ie did you install keymapper from the repos, or the input-remapper from the link?)
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!
