Boot Mode: BIOS (legacy, CSM, MBR)
I believe that the trouble is related to the Crucial BX500 SSD in combination with the in my opinion weird kernel version 5.10.
The sytem is multi boot, using the W10 boot menu, running also Endeavour, Mabox and Mint 20 on the various partitions. So i use the W10 boot manager and configure it using EasyBCD.
Grub is installed at the sub-partitions, which for MX 21 is /dev/sda9.
All other systems (W10, Endeavour, Mabox and Mint and more) run fine without any issues.
The only way to install MX Linux 21 is to use the older MX Linux 21.2 ISO.
It still takes a lot of effort to install MX21 using the older 21.2 ISO.
It appears to be difficult to add kernel 4.9, reboot that kernel and then remove version 5.10.
Removal of kernel 5.10 reports errors removing virtualbox-guest packages.
Also there are several errors adding or removing Realtek modules to the kernel, e.g. for R8812.
I finally succeeded to install MX 21 and run it with kernel 4.9 and all the latest updates.
I am typing this report on the HP mini MX 21 system, that seems to be running fast and stable at last.
Some other little MX 21 Linux annoyances:
1)
There are many (useless ??) locales by default installed, which take a lot of time when a major set of updates is applied. The locales need to be removed after deselecting them one by one.
2)
I use Ventoy as a means to work with several distribution ISO files on one medium.
The MX Linux installer adds the uefi boot partition from that medium as EFS by default.
So i always have to remove EFS selection before starting the installation process.
3)
At the end of the configuration before and during the installation process some tips are displayed.
It is possible to go back one step, but then it will not be possible to go forward again to the last page with the tips .
