Firefox should not depend on pulseaudio - Pipewire works just fine

#1 Post by euzao »

Hey, I'd like first of all thank you for the great distro you made.

I had to install pipewire in order to have proper bluetooth headset support. So I installed pipewire-setup-mx, uninstalled pulseaudio and everything worked just fine. But sadly I had firefox uninstalled.

Why don't you make pulseaudio as a recommended package instead of a hard dependency to firefox? I created a dummy package of pulseaudio (using equivs) to install it and worked just fine. In Debian's official firefox package (firefox-esr), pulseaudio is a recommended package, not a hard dependency.

I used to put a "provides" on pipewire-setup-mx, but the new pipewire packages cause it to be removed because they have a "conflict" with pulseaudio

but I agree on removing the pulseaudio depend from firefox. @mmikeinsantarosa what do you think? should only be a change in the control file to remove pulseaudio and apulse.

Sure thing. I'll try to get it up tonight. I'll pull these two

Code: Select all

pulseaudio | apulse,
and send up a +2

I think it might be better to add pipewire as a sound provider option rather than remove the others.
pulseaudio | apulse | pipewire,
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB
