It's good to be back

Here you can just talk about MX or post interesting topics about what you have done in MX that you want to share with others. Other non-MX topics can be discussed within the Rules of the Forum.

It's good to be back

#1 Post by Tovian »

Hello, Everyone. I am making the first post on this board in roughly 11 years. I was a Mepis experimenter when I first began trying Linux, but eventually I migrated to other distros. I was a Mint user for a very long time but felt lost when they dropped support for the KDE desktop. I am now hoping that MX will become my main Linux of Choice.
I've learned a little bit about Linux in the years I have been a user - but I'm still essentially a "rookie". That means I will ask dumb questions... but that's what I do best.

Nice to be back....... :celebrate:

Thank you !!

@Utopia - I remember your Username but you may have changed avatars (?). I've only known one "Henry" on the net... were you ever a firefighter or was that someone else?

@Eadwine Rose - I'm starting to know more-and-more about memory "issues" - Nothing serious - yet... but indications may not be good. I definitely remember your Username !!

I'm lucky that, after I tried to join this board and was rejected for "Username already in use", RichB gave a lot of time and effort to reconnect me with my old setup. Prior to his interaction I did not realize that MX was related to Mepis. Anyway - Kudos and Thanks to Rich.

BTW: from my first post above... the "Celebrate" Smilie (in "View more smilies") does not seem to be working on my computer. It just shows a link. When I try to open it from the library it just links back to the main library (not the image) ? No complaints - just curious.

That wasn't me. Don't like fires.

No Warren is long gone. He stopped development of Mepis and that was when MX was born and the Forum. Along the way many excellent developers came on board and got MX where it is today from MX 14 to MX 21.

EDIT: Regarding smilies I am not sure what the issue is on your computer, but post the problem in Site Help.

I stuck with Mepis 11 as long as I could but when I was forced to upgrade I went with Mint KDE, which was fine. Then they dropped KDE, so here I was feeling twice abandoned. What I had continued with was staying involved in the Mepis community and participated a bit in testing of the early iterations of MX. When MX KDE was introduced, I was able to come back home myself. MX KDE felt like a well worn pair of slippers.

I'm really starting to like this product (distro)... it feels like something I have been wanting for a long time.
