Is anybody trying the wonderful Tuner for internet music radio?

#1 Post by Jerry3904 »

In November 2021 the much-missed SwampRabbit compiled and uploaded the current stable 1.5.0 version of this minimalist internet radio app to the MX Test Repo (for MX-21 and MX-19) so installable with MX Package Installer, and there it still sits. It is a great app for people who like to listen to music and to explore around world stations without a lot of fuss.

It has a very basic gui that ain't beautiful but works very well--well adapted to ugly ducklings! In dark mode:

It is very fast and easy to use, and I hope so see some testers take it for a ride so we can get it moved to Main. One quirk: you have to click the pause icon before you kill it, otherwise it just keeps playing along with no icon in the systray to use.

Looks cool. I haven't used it but I will give it a try. Thank you Jerry for announcing it.
I like to add that I just installed it and I like it very much. :cool2:
I am command line illiterate. :confused: I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list. :mad:

Yep I installed it soon after it was put up Jerry. I agree, it's a fine little application and fascinating really to see different music styles from around the world.
BTW, you mentioned the much missed SR. Has he taken leave or something? I do trust he is fit and well.

Tried it out straight away.
Apart from the aforementioned annoyance that it cannot be easily closed (or at least visibly parked in the systray), a fine little programme.

Yes, installed it on my old desktop running MX 19. No problems - except my deafness, but that is easily overcome with the audio gain control and a pair of headphones..

Thanks Jerry.

@Jerry3904
Thanks for rejuvenating this. I missed it the first time around. Thanks also to SwampRabbit. The variety of music and stations abound. It works fine on MX 21 KDE and is more than worthy to move to Main.

The Dev is working mostly by himself. I wonder if anybody here would be interested in helping with that systray option (he's coding in Vala). He also is looking for help with translations.

Just installed Tuner (from MX test repo), and modified the menu entry to include "open in Terminal". (in case I forget to hit pause before closing.)

Nice app. Does what it says on the tin. All classical stations accessible so far.

Note the command to open from terminal is:

$ com.github.louis77.tuner

Alex.
