How connect an iPhone to MX via USB and read it out like a USB stick?
Hallo forists,
Is there perhaps a way to make the contents of the iPhone connected by USB cable to Linux appear like a normal USB stick?
So that one can read photos from the iPhone and copy them to a desktop computer running mx21.1?
I know there is iCloud and fehlix helped to install it successfully,
but my friend does not like to use it.
Sincerely
Karl

Because you haven't said what version of MX you're running, we can only guess. It might help to put the basics of your daily driver into a signature like I have done so it becomes included with every post.
On first connection, my work iPhone asked me for my passphrase to allow the PC to use its resources. the iPhone immediately went into USB Hotspot mode. Thereafter, ....
In MX-21 Xfce, I only needed to click on the Whisker menu, type "id" into the search field and immediately iDeviceMounter was displayed. Clicked on that and my phone was displayed in the available devices and I only had to select it & mount it to get a fresh file browser window displaying the phones contents.
Don't think it could get much easier than that.
Not much was on offer though, with the only useful folders being DCIM and /iTunes_Control/Music. the rest were typical Apple cruft
You must remember to keep the iDeviceMounter app open and unmount it when you're done.

you can get photos off with most iphones just with thunar. as long as you unlock the phone after connecting. but that only works for photos.

@m_pav
You are right, I forgot to mention the MX-Version:
it is the brandnew 21.1, May-15-2022, 64bit
Since it's a friend's computer that the iPhone is supposed to give its data out to,
it didn't make sense to include my computer's quick system info.
I will try it on her computer tonight (German time).
Thank you very much for your support!

Yes, it's all about the photos.
We'll see how it goes tonight.
She is extremely impatient when it comes to computer stuff.
But otherwise nice ;-)
Greetings

I have mx 19.4. it is so simple to just go to whisker menu, all application, scroll down to idevice mounter.
Re: How connect an iPhone to MX via USB and read it out like a USB stick?
I couldn't USB tether my new iPhone SE2 to my Lenovo Thinkpad X201 running MX Linux 19.4 so I was forced to overwrite with Xubuntu 22.04 which has the tethering driver for the iPhone SE2 ... MX Linux 19.4 worked fine with my old iPhone 5s but no dice with the SE2 ... desperate times call for desperate measures ... the "recognition" between my new iPhone SE2 and the X201 running Xubuntu 22.04 when I connect the tethering cable is instantaneous ... no fiddling whatsoever
Re: How connect an iPhone to MX via USB and read it out like a USB stick?
Have you tried running MX Tools -> iDeviceMounter?
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.
Re: How connect an iPhone to MX via USB and read it out like a USB stick?
... sorry, didn't try iDeviceMounter
... with MX Linux 19.4 I could eventually connect the iPhone SE2 with wifi but even that took some fiddling and considerable "coarse vocabulary" ... didn't need that hassle at every sign-on
... the distros are all Debians "grand kids" anyway
... all hype and loyalty aside Xubuntu & MX Linux (both XFCE desktops) are pretty darn close (except for the iPhone SE2 driver) ... "6 of 1, half dozen of the other" as far as anything else
... on the available connections screen MX Linux shows "Apple iPhone 5/5C/5S/6" and Xubuntu shows "Apple iPhone "5/5C/5S/6/SE"

Re: How connect an iPhone to MX via USB and read it out like a USB stick?
Been trying this after installing mx-idevice mounter but no luck with an iPhone G3S (2009), an iPod touch 4th Gen (2019), and a iphone SE (2016).
But no device is found.
Wondered if anyone has had success with these devices. ..or I may well have a connection cable issue.

You need to type "sudo usbmuxd -s" in terminal. For some reason you need systemd for the iphone connection to work.
