I have actually washed of motherboards full of tar and nicotine with dish soap and a very soft paint brush and then set them in front of a fan for days and then then let them set in the sunlight for hours and have never had a problem with one.

In the 1960s and 1970s the Tektronix Oscilloscope company used to wash oscilloscopes out which usually would solve 80% of the problems with them.

You will have to copy and paste this one in the url search bar.

Really? I've heard that nicotine/tar cannot be effectively cleaned off without using something acidic like lemon juice. And it gets even worse. If it's not cleaned properly, the layer of nicotine/tar can leach into the air and cause lung problems long term.

Dish soap is really good at removing grease and grime and depending on how much tar and nicotine build up is on the motherboard it may have to set a bit to loosen it up and the use of a fish tank air pump to agitate the soapy water helps.

We had a cell phone get dunked so I shook it vigorously and removed the battery and placed it on top of the Spectrum tv unit. It is always warm, and after 2 days the water vanished from the display and it was fine.
