MX 21 - KDE live USB freezes during bootup with 4K monitor

#1 Post by cmf5 »

Hello all,

I am a former Simply MEPIS user from way back, and I'm interested in perhaps switching over to MX Linux - KDE on a desktop that is currently running openSUSE.

Last month I burned a live USB of the MX 21 - KDE to a USB key, but it failed to boot on my desktop system. Here are the details:
  • The bootup freezes as KDE is loading.
  • MX 21 - KDE runs fine on this system as a virtual machine on PlayOnLinux.
  • This same live USB could boot successfully on an older Acer laptop with a 1080p screen.
  • The desktop system on which MX21-KDE fails to load has an Asus GeForce GTX 750 Ti graphics card, with a 4K monitor connected via HDMI.
  • Suspecting that the 4K resolution might be the issue, I tried booting the live USB key on this system with only a VGA monitor attached, and bootup completed.
  • MX 21 with XCFE boots successfully with the 4K monitor attached to this system.
Any suggestions on how I could successfully boot MX Linux 21 - KDE on my system with the 4k monitor running would be sincerely appreciated. I would like to confirm that everything runs fine in live USB mode before I commit to overwriting my openSUSE partition on my Linux/Windows dual boot system.
