What's that down-pointing arrow light on my keyboards

#1 Post by Falcon »

On all of my keyboards, next to the NumLock and CapsLock indicator lights, there is one that looks like a down-pointing arrow. I have never seen it illuminated, but I'm sure it's there for something. Does anyone know what it is supposed to indicate or what it's function is?

When it lights up. Sounds like a hot key for sound, wireless, brightness , cuz I don't really know what it may control.

I could be wrong. Would not be a first.

It will vary with the keyboard maker. The Dell KB has the Scroll Lock Key in a group of three immediately above the numeric keys. There is no indicator.
Two HP keyboards have their Scroll Lock key in a group of three spaced above the Insert, Home and Page Up Keys. One of these boards has an indicator
light labelled Scroll Lock in the right hand top corner of the keyboard but I have never seen it light up. The other HP keyboard, a smaller one, has a down facing arrow in the top right corner but I have never seen this light up either. I simply ignore them and do not use scroll lock anyway..

Primary :Homebrew64 bit Intel duo core 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Kingston SSD, Seagate1TB.
MX-18.2 64bit. Also MX17, Kubuntu14.04 & Puppy 6.3.

I tried the Scroll Lock key but the indicator didn't light up. Like you said, I just ignore it, but it would have been interesting to know what it's intended function was. Oh, well.

If you give us the model of the keyboard we could probably find a screenshot or even manual...

Look up the model of the keyboard. I'm sure your answer is out there.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

I tried pressing the Scroll Lock key but the indicator doesn't light up. Maybe some OSs don't support the Scroll Lock function...???
