which VPN? NordVPN fails

#1 Post by hkjz »

Hey, is there now any recommended VPN to use?
NordVpn start doing problmes since last update, and it becomes ridiculous - since it is for sure not maintenance free anymore.

What is good recommended standard for both linux and android? Suggestions? Mullvad?
Thank you

You haven't specified whether it needs to be free or not?

I use Speedify as a VPN and also a way to bridge my crappy rural wired and wireless connections together which it does seamlessly, it is not free and it requires systemd but it works perfectly for me across Windows, Linux and Android systems.

To be fair, NordVPN's openvpn technology works flawless, it is nordlynx that's almost useless under linux due to recurring connection freezes. My workaround used to be hourly reconnects. As reconnecting takes 4-5 seconds this workaround is useless when you're listening to online radio stream. So now I use IKEv2/IPSec which I find just as fast as nordlynx (wireguard). I use network manager to enable it, switching between different servers is a matter of specific scripts. So overall I'm dissappointed by the now fact, that nordlynx is a mess, but I'm perfectly okay with IKEv2/IPSec.

If anyone is interrested, installing wireguard does solve the NordVPN disconnect problem that's been occurring for quite some time now.

Thanks, tadream, that's good to know, regardless of choice of VPN.

PIA = Private Internet Access works on MX Linux.
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.

Per my earlier post in this thread, nordvpn continues to work with fehlix's workaround.
