MX21 - HP Scanner not working - plugins not installed, wont accept root password [Solved]

#1 Post by jerry525 »

I have an all in one HP Laserjet Pro MFP M125nw

The printer setup was fine and works, but not the scanner, printer and scanner all worked fine on MX19

When I try and scan it says I need a plugin, when I select the download plugin option it asks me for my root password, but then tells me my password is incorrect. I've searched around, some people have special characters in their password which was an issue (I don't have anything like that). Any help appreciated.

I wager you have installed HP Printing in MXPI's popular tab? I also install xsane so Gimp plays nice.

Have you tried your user password? MX uses sudo as a default now (if I understood that correctly). You can change that back to root, if you have set up a root account with password. In MX Tweak, Other tab, select root, click apply.

Thanks, yes downloaded xsane. It is not allowing me to select root in Tweak, just stuck on user.. I only had one password which explains that. Looking as MX user manager but its not obvious how to change that.

To install / configure the plug-in, follow the instructions at the bottom of this page from the HP Developers' Portal knowledge base:

https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... uage=es-un
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

hp-setup repeats what Ive already been through and sets the printer up again. It doesn't solve the scanner issue.
