How to disable pop -ups

#1 Post by PaulGureghian1 »

How to disable pop-ups when cursor hovers over a minimized app on the MX21 xfce panel ?
I checked the xfce and conky settings.

Thanks.

I don’t believe this option exists at this time.

This same question was asked here

hello PaulGureghian1
closest step in that direction,
regarding it is docklike plug-in that is this subject,
in docklike taskbar Preferences
one small step is to checkmark
[-] Don't show list when single window.
This is about pop-out window list of nonpinned applications.
What percentage of use will that turn-off for You?

Pinned applications will follow the window list rules same as nonpinned apps;
at times the pinned apps are not open and have no window list.

Pinned Applications will always show name on hover
when there is no menu list greater than one.
This is about pop-out Name identity tooltip of pinned applications.

@i_ri that is a good work around.

I am going to spend some time looking at docklike to see if the pop-up timeout can be adjusted easily or option to disable it on hover over is possible.

But no one hold their breath on me looking at that fast.

Personally I just don’t hover over icons unless I am going to use them, but I guess that isn’t normal since two people have asked this question now.

I saw this and considered adding an option in the dialog, kinda of like the "Don't show list for single window", but I don't know where to contribute anymore as the https://github.com/davekeogh/xfce4-docklike-plugin seems more up to date and links back to the Xfce Wiki. Where is MX Linux packaging the plugin from?

The purpose of task icon bar is to provide the window lists. period.
(edit add:Just an aside to this; Windows VistaHomeBasic was the last to not have live preview. Windows VistaPremium had live preview. I kept a VistaBasic install for the beauty of the lack of pop-ups. And it yet exists in an hdd caddy next to antiX19. That is sympathizing with PaulGureghian1, i understand. )

cursor movement accuracy? slow down the mouse pointer speed settings?

maybe an expanding spacer on the panel can provide a barrier to areas where the list pop-outs, esp. preview, are not wanted to cover something, while still keeping pinned apps in a location comfortable for launching the applications pinned? That is a question of compromise comfort plus the maintenance of sometimes rearrange or move app icons in the docklike taskbar while working and opening additional windows?

On hover disable. Require click.
or
On hover enable

Is that difficult? Few or many will pick click?

PaulGureghian1. Will You pick click? if there is a docklike adjustment to choose?
I will choose hover. How about you?

Hey bud, good to hear from you, hope all is good with you.

DaveKeogh (current maintainer who got it added in Xfce GitLab), I believe wants commits and PRs there, as he can have issues posted to this and because it’ll be the long term home. He just hasn’t archived the other one yet.

The GitLab version is the one we’ll be building off of from now on out (at least that’s the plan).

@i_ri things are always easier said than done. ;)
