[solved] Can MX selectively update?  [Solved]

#1 Post by anti-ewaste »

Simply put, check boxes to select/deselect - I have things that do not need to be updated every time because of low bandwidth and they are large downloads, along with the fact that I don't use them often. I've looked at the MX package installer and maybe I'm braindead but I don't see a way to easily do this except scroll down the long list rather than the few that has newer versions.

Minimally relevant I guess but here's the Quick System info:

MX Package installer, select the tab you want, then on the right a drop down menu says All packages. Click that, click upgradable. That will make only the packages that have upgrades show up.

Minor addition for anyone else who may come across this: I also had to deselect the box for Hide library and developer package on the bottom so those are available.

You shouldn’t have to do that unless you really want to. Any libraries and -dev packages that are needed by your system and applications “should” get pulled down when the dependent application gets updated.

Part the the reason that checkbox is set is because for many users the libraries and -dev packages are confusing and it also makes the list shorter to review for general users.

Another option to see and select updates is using Synaptic. It will show all packages by default and can provide a bit more info.
NEW USERS START HERE FAQS, MX Manual, and How to Break Your System - Don't use Ubuntu PPAs! Always post your Quick System Info (QSI) when asking for help.

Hmm, I only looked for that because after skipping Firefox and Signal, I noticed that one still didn't update/didn't show with the box checked and was showing in both the MX Updater via the desktop/green box as well as MX Package Installer. It was libexiv2 fwiwi, I had looked it up because I was curious. Would it be because either Firefox or Signal needs it?
