Hi, recently installed MX linux, latest version with kernel 5.10, everything is ok, except keyboard and touchpad freezes suddenly, without apparent problem at least the system do not give any problem, and the only solution is reboot. I have set up power button to suspend system and then with Crtl+Alt+f2 re login and keyboard and touchpad works again. My only solution has been add "thermal.off=1" to parameter kernel and is not working. Any idea? Same problem with xubuntu, debian gnome, etc,etc... It is not hardware problem because, with Windows 10, never never freezes.

Though it was the same with debian "gnome" : Does it happen especially after waking from suspend / sleep ?

(If yes, it's a known issue due to xfce4-screensaver. Just remove that, although it was there by default)

No, happens suddenly, is working correctly, and gets frozen, without any reason apparently. So pc is working, no waking from suspend or sleep, very strange behaviour honestly, in many distros. MX Linux is the 3º o 4º I have installed, after Debian Gnome, Ubuntu focal, Xubuntu, Wifislax,.....I will remove xfce4-screensaver to see if solve something, thanks Huckleberry Finn.

Use a compressed air spray to clean keyboard?

Yep. It looks like a physical (hardware) issue . So, (sadly) removing the screensaver or trying any other distros won't work ...

Remembered one more thing: Generally taking the Rams out then re-seating them solves such issues. (Yes, there's also MemTest, you can run it , but sometimes it shows no errors and just re-seating them solves the issue).

Also you can start GSmartControl from Menu and check disk's health.

Being a new(?) mx user, did you make the common mistake of installing a ppa? anything from a ppa? (That concept of "no ppas" was hard for me to remember. I still almost do it.).

What if you boot the live USB, and use that for awhile to see if happens? (How long do you think you'd have to wait? 15 minutes? 2 days? I can see how the latter would be a hardship. But, if it's a couple hours, maybe you could try it.). Worst case, reinstall and don't do much to the system, see if it happens again. Or, worster case: install a different distro. If reinstalling mx still has the porblem, but another distro doesn't. That would be interesting to distinguish.

@doguito Also (as always) don't forget to disable "Fast Startup" in Windows and to disable "Secure Boot" (if there is) in Bios settings (as it prevents most open-source (and digitally unsigned) drivers...).

Sorry. What about bios? If it weren't current, it could cause something across many distros? (I'm sure I've got something useful to say here.).

Bios could be updated or at least reset to defaults, but :

that's why I thought it was something affecting "only" Linux (... mostly "secure boot" ) ... (Yes, this time: if it were the Rams, then why Win. doesn't freeze, too? ). But , no harm and nothing to lose.. you can both re-seat Rams and reset / upgrade Bios ... Though everything's fine with Windows .
