Mint vs MX kde Simultaneous LAN WAN connections

#1 Post by linuxtothebone »

hi there,

just looking for some clarification regarding the network connections.

I want to be able to connect to my home nas (LAN) and wireless (WAN/internet) at the same time. I can currently have both connections active and connected but am unable to use the internet. It seems that the LAN is prioritised over the Wireless.

I do not have this issue with linux mint.

thanks to everyone

Yep! I believe that's the default. Using the network manager applet you can see & adjust the priorities though. For me it looks like wireless defaults to "0" and wired to "-999", and lower must win. So, adjust those and you should be ok.

great thank you for your input.

I have just tried re ordering the priority...

changed lan from -100 to 0 and wifi from 0 t0 -100 and still having the same internet connectivity failure. Any further help is much appreciated. Maybe im missing something significant. I had a linux mint box that never had this issue so I never thought it was one.

I am using a hg659 modem/router ( it has not internet connection) for the NAS and use my phone as wifi hotspot for internet access.

thanks again.

still having the same issue. I have adjusted the priority so the lan is 0 and the wireless is -100 and restarted the pc. this has not made any difference. is there something I am missing?

I connect to the internet via wifi hotspot and the router is for the local nas modem/router that has not connection to the net it just functions as a router.

look forward to insight about why this issue exists. are there others that have the same issue?

thankyou

Do you have two network interfaces? Or are you using your Wireless interface for both the LAN and the Internet?

thanks for the reply,

If you mean am I using the same graphical interface software to manage each connection. yes I am using the connections interface standard in mx linux KDE

I am just using a laptop hp8570p, I am using this same machine for both connections it has a lan plug and a wireless capacity. not sure how to identify wether there is 2 different hardwares that do each the lan and the wireless, if that is what you mean.

This should answer that question.

it sure does, I really like the quick info application, ill be using that function again! Do you know if it is accessible by CLI just tried it and yes you can CLI with the command... quick-system-info-mx.

is this a standard in other linux distro's, I could use this when trying out, testing or configuring.

thanks for the tip.

Back to the topic at hand... is there any way I can use both devices at the same time. is this unique to my setup or does this issue have history I dont know about?

Do I need to force the priority somehow? I have tried with the network gui the default presets were -100 LAN and 0 for WLAN. I have tried switching those values around with the network gui to no avail.
