MX 19.4 AHS GTK Bug: cannot change wallpaper image for files that are not in backgrounds folder [SOLVED]

Hello.

When I try to select an image to put on a wallpaper I can only select images from the "backgrounds" folder. This bug is recent because previously I was able to select images from other folders.

If I select another picture folder, the file names appear in a pale gray as if they were disabled and I can't select anything from that folder.

Something similar is happening with the program easyMP3Gain. In this program you can select individual files or entire folders, when I try to select a folder these appear in pale grey as if they are disabled and I cannot select them but the function of selecting individual files it works properly.

A few years ago, this same bug I had with Manjaro-OpenRC and it was solved by rollback to the previous version of GTK installed in the system, from that I deduce that it is the same problem with GTK.

Regards.

Screenshots are attached.

ISTM, it's not a bug but rather designed this way: You would first select the folder, which contains images, not an individual image file. Next within the preview pane, which get generated from the files within the select folder, you finally select the new wallpaper image.

That confused me too when I was new to Xfce. Apparently the greyed-out filenames are just shown so you can tell if it's the directory you want to use.

You can choose another folder. Just navigate through the dropdown menu in the folder selector. Ignore the greyed out items in the folder selector interface.

However once you have selected folder and are back at the wallpaper preview pane, you MUST click on any pic in the pane to confirm folder selection.

If you fail to do so and just click on OK or Apply button, you will revert to the previous folder. It's a weird xfce quirk.

Hello.

I'm sorry for my stupid mistake with the wallpaper folder. :frustrated:

But the failure of the easyMP3Gain is not fixed, this program uses GTK2.

as a workaround for easymp3gain, until they update it, you can drag folders from thunar into the interface.

its not even available from debian stretch, buster, or bullseye. we packaged it for MX by user request.

Hello dolphin_oracle.

Thanks for your answer. Exactly, i use "open with" in Thunar for open folders like solution.
