On Debian 10 you are best not doing that... Here are the supported versions:

For whatever reason Gnome is not very popular on MX... it's not my cup of tea either. But then I use i3wm & dwm...

I have MX on a laptop and desktop. Desktop runs Xfce and KDE and laptop runs MX KDE and I installed Gnome. I like them both.

We are working on MX 21, which will be based on Debian 11. We don't plan on offering MX GNOME at the present, though, unless someone offers a fortune to do so!

That's fine. Whatever new versions you release will be great.
My first full time Linux distro was Mepis in 2005. It's nice to be able to run a great OS like MX these days with Mepis roots. :)
