Skype and Thunderbird connection problems

#1 Post by unimatrix001 »

I am still new to mx-linux and do not want to mess it up. About a month ago I was trying to check my email on comcast.net using thunberbird, I get the error message cannot connect to server user name or password incorrect. If i go to the website the user name and password work. I also have an account with hotmail and there is no problem there using thunderbird. when using windows I have no problem connecting using windows mail. connects to both servers. Around this same time I also noticed that skype for linux was not connecting. I have checked through the forums and found a few requests for help on this subject. Looked at the replies and checked what they said to do uninstalled manually removed files the only thing I didn't do was change the dns server defaults wasn't sure if doing so would mess up the full internet connection or not. Any help would be appreciated. All settings for linux are defaults that come with the install with the exception of adding fluxbox to the startup and used those defaults also.

Sounds like you have your thunderbird connection setup incorrectly. It can be finicky.
The Skype issue is almost certainly totally different.
The two do not connect in the same manner.

FWIW... these are pretty certain to be application not MX issues.

Have been looking around the internet for days on this found something on a linux mint board about libnss resolve was wondering if that command was included in the mx system. found some info on this board but nothing about using it. Found more info but it is about libnss-ldap and libnss-ldapd. Any info on how to use and which one to use would be appreciated.

What message do you get when starting TB through the terminal when it doesn't want to connect.

The terminal output might hold a clue.

Same for Skype.

I got this from the skype startup log:(electron) Sending uncompressed crash reports is deprecated and will be removed in a future version of Electron. Set { compress: true } to opt-in to the new behavior. Crash reports will be uploaded gzipped, which most crash reporting servers support.

Please put the output in code tags (the </> next to the quotes in the full editor).

There is something going wrong already, when I start skype through the terminal nothing comes back. No errors at all. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will drop by and see what is going on here.

sorry it has been so long since I replied, have been busy with family matters. The last time I used skypeforlinux was on march 21 using MX 19.3 with fluxbox and xfce since the upgrade to 19.4 skype has stopped working along with not being able to connect to comcast.net through thunderbird. I am not proficient in using linux cli so any info you need i would need detailed instruction on how to accomplish that task. I am not sure but is it possible that during the upgrade or after with the other assorted upgrades that maybe a library that was needed got deleted by mistake, just a thought.
