Have you enabled the kernel sandbox in MX Tweak? Double-check it and make sure it's still enabled if you'd already enabled it earlier.

Kernel Sandbox was disabled. But enabling and rebooting did not solve the issue.

I de-installed the package "chromium-sandbox" via synaptic. Now Chromium is again working, but I believe that this is not the solution? How to get it up and running?

the issue is here not solved - only delayed... I got some more seconds until Chromium freezes...

Here are a couple of suggestions from the Linux Mint forum and the Superuser forum:

Scroll down to that last post for the solution:
https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic. ... %20manager.

Here, the second last post offers the answer:
https://superuser.com/questions/520932/ ... linux-mint

When I did the search using the criteria chromium + freezes + linux, I got 202,000 hits. There are so many things that can cause Chromium to flounder that it's just not viable for regular use.

after the Chromium update today the browser stops working or crashes when try to open the first web page.
I was having a similar issue, and it turned out to be a bad installation; chromium pkg didn't download properly. After reinstalling the issue went away, it wasn't this (87.0.4280.141) version though but a previous one I was using from Mint since Debian's was stuck at 83. You might try that and see if it helps.

I still think users should try disabling hardware acceleration, which is enabled by default now (didn't used to be ).

Hi, that solved the issue. Due to the non usable Version I have switched back to version 83 via Synaptic, disabled hardware acceleration, updated again to 87 and it works now.

Thanks

If this is solved to your satisfaction, could you please edit your original post #1 at the very top of the topic by clicking the pencil tip icon, the one circled in red in my screenshot image below (yours won't have the red circle)
Image
and add [SOLVED] at the front of the subject? This will make it easier for others when they search the forum looking for a solution to the same problem. Thanks.

Well well, tried to uninstall all about chromium and remove cache file but it seems I did not the right thing since after reinstallation I recovered my bookmarks and extensions without reinstalling them.
That's weird, how to get rid about all chromium stuff ?

personal data, like bookmarks, are stored in a chromium profile folder in the home directory. you will have to delete that folder manually.

Ok, got it now.
Unfortunatly after managing to uninstall everything :(
That's about hardware acceleration yes but the information that was missing is how to start it without acceleration ... to disable acceleration.
And that is : chromium --disable-gpu
Then you can go to setting and disable hardware acceleration and on next start it's ok without --disable-gpu.

Ahh, thanks for that. There's people on the Debian forum with the same problem that will also thank you after I let them know the fix.
