MX19 Experience and Impression

Here you can post about what you did to get MX to work right with your computer or if hardware worked right out of the box for you. This is for the computers and/or hardware that is normally hard to get working right in Linux or MX.

MX19 Experience and Impression

#1 Post by remarkrv »

I recently installed MX19-XFCE on two laptop computers. A 15 year old 32 bit Dell Inspiron 6000 (windows XP) and a HP Pavilion G7 (Windows 7). Both computers were running XFCE desktops from different distros. Performance of both computers was pretty dismal. I am amazed at the improved performance of both computers, especially the 32 bit Dell Inspiron, it has never run this fast and smooth before. After getting the computers configured, I saved the desktop theme using MX-Tweat, and the file didn’t save. Not sure if it was something I did, a pc problem, or MX problem, I posted my problem on the MX Help forum. It turned out to be an issue with MX and an update was immediately provided and installed, problem fixed. Pretty amazing and appreciated response to a small problem. Gives me a lot of confidence to getting larger problems resolved. I’m going to take a look at replacing my desktop computer KDE Plasma OS with the MX version.

I have just migrated from MX 19.2 XFCE to MX 19.3 KDE and have to say it is the most beautiful, configurable, generally compatible with peripherals (Epson v500 Scanner has always caused me problems but not this time) distro I have used in the last five years. I was impressed with the XFCE edition but the latest KDE edition has blown me away. One of my main motivations was to resolve issues of video stuttering when connecting two full HD monitors to my Thinkpad T420. KDE video rendering is silky smooth and runs both screens with half the resource required by XFCE. An unexpected benefit was that my network download speeds on wifi have trebled :) I did a nuke and pave rather than update and switch DE and I would recommend anyone who is considering KDE not to hesitate. Come on in the water's lovely!
