I want to upgrade from stable linux kernel (4.19.0-12-amd64) to Liquorix on my MX 19.2, however, i've stumbled on some warnings/errors despite following the MX users manual.

First of all i've upgrade my Nvidia drivers from 420.xx to 450.80.02 using Nvidia install script of MX Tools.
Then i installed from MX Test Repo the liquorix-amd64 image and headers packages which correspond to 5.8.17 version.

However, during installation an error about broadcom-sta-dkms occurs suggesting to read more in broadcom-sta-make.log.

Here is the logfile: After restart there is no boot entry for the Liquorix kernel. How should I proceed from here? I searched in the MX forum and found in some posts about Liquorix that you can uninstall broadcom-sta-dkms but I don't know if i should in case of something brakes.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

If you don't have Broadcom devices on pc (wifi etc.) nothing to worry, I uninstalled that, too.

(You can just ignore the errors also without uninstalling; they just "inform" you in fact, that Broadcom-sta package may not build on that kernel in case you need them ... Meanwhile, sometimes that Broadcom -and Nvidia- errors appear when installing "the newest" MX/antiX kernels, too , for they require some time to be patched/adapted by the developers...)

But, rather than Liquorix, you can install the antiX 5.8.16 from MX Package Manager Popular Apps tab with 2 clicks, if you like.. Stable, more compatible, already by antiX ...

Thanks for the answer, i'd like to have the Liquorix kernel cause i use MX mostly for gaming and wanted to check any performance improvements, so i don't know if thei anitX kernel is what i'm looking for, except they don't have any difference.

I've ignored the errors but unfortunately there is no grub entry about the Liquorix kernel..

So, have you seen the installation ended with success ?

Anyway, you can manually update grub (though it does that automatically at the end):
Reboot.

Meanwhile, you can try that, too. If your internet is not limited, install and try,
then to uninstall, boot with another kernel, search for 5.8 in Stable Repo in MXPI, check, Uninstall ..

Do you have another distro controlling grub?

Ah yes, I forgot that possibility.
Shortly: In that case, apply that update command on that other distro.

Damn, thank you guys!! I have indeed Debian installed on a 2nd HDD and after updating the grub there on next reboot the new Liquorix kernel is available!!

For gaming, you may have wanted to start with the MX AHS or KDE version, since they have DKMS drivers that'll build with 5.8 kernels by default. We're currently testing 5.9-compatible virtualbox 6.1.16 in the test repo, since we should also have a 5.9 Liquorix kernel in our test repo soon to go along with our 5.9.1 backported Debian one.
