File reporting, inventory app for MX?

#1 Post by mmikeinsantarosa »

A buddy just inherited a TB of music and he asked me to post here for him.
What is a simple utility for analyzing a terabyte
drive full of files? I need something like Tree but
with reporting & searching to find duplicate files
and locate identical artists across many directories.

I don't want it to play music or be a collection manager,
just make reports and help me sort it out.
I figured I'd pass this on to the A-Team here.

Open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

If it was windows I would say to use something like mediamonkey. It's a player and collection manager but it does the duplicate file thing.

dupeguru from the test repo will probably do what your friend wants. I haven't used it but it's supposed to have a music mode that can scan ID3 tags in music files besides looking at the file names. https://dupeguru.voltaicideas.net/ has more information.
