That African Grey is probably just responding to the different verbal cues, like a dog does when commanded to "Speak!", but you should look up videos of the late, famous Alex, a Grey that could answer questions, such as how many of his toys were blue or made of wood ("what matter?"), or could combine known words for something new, such as "rock corn" for dried corn kernels. He was owned by a lab researching animal cognition, so the tests were carefully designed to eliminate things like the Clever Hans effect.
