Hi,
I am newbie in linux world and I want to migrate from windows xp. I have this machine, hardware and system info: Dell laptop inspiron 6400, Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU 1.86 GHz and 1 GB of Ram. I want to install MX Fluxbox on it as a main and only operating system. My question is, does my computer can handle it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to MX-Linux and the Linux World.
Best thing to do is try it on the live DVD or USB.
it would be better if you could up the ram a bit.
Good Luck!

Yes of course.
Live Example: This one at the moment is even far more older than yours ( HP from 2005, single core, 2GB DDR2 ram -was only 512MB originally- and 32 bit and also "was designed for XP" the sticker is still on :) ) . And it's "flying" ..
Just write the iso with Rufus particularly if you'll use Windows..
And unlike Windows installations, first a live-session starts rather than directly installing. You can use that and test everything on live-session, then click install "whenever you like". :)
When it comes to installation, you can ask again here what to / how to .. Also you "don't have to erase XP", you can even keep there (ok, not supported anymore, maybe for daily things.. up to you)..
P.S. On MX 19 you can switch bw. Xfce & Fluxbox also ..

I want to install MX Fluxbox on it as a main and only operating system.
That's great, and I hope you enjoy it.
One thing to remember: the very first time you come to the login screen, both running Live and installed, you need to select fluxbox from the icon in the middle of the top bar. After that, you will automatically be logged into MXFB.

You'll need the 32-but version of MX-19.2 as your CPU's instruction set is 32-bit. I'm running MX with Fluxbox on a netbook with a 1.6GHz Atom processor and 2GB of RAM (originally 1GB but I had an old 2GB DDR2 SODIMM so I swapped it out) and it works OK. I suggest that after installing MX you read this post on making Fluxbox use less memory:
viewtopic.php?p=560215#p560215 (in particular steps 4 and 5.)

Hi majix, welcome.
Yes, MXFluxbox should run good on that hardware. I have MXFluxbox running on a P-III in 512MB of RAM and the full 32-bit MX-19.2 XFCE running on a P4 with 3GB of RAM. More RAM would give you more flexibility but 1GB is enough. If you find it difficult to manage the memory then look into upgrading your RAM. But there is no substitute for trying. Go ahead an give it a go and tell us how it goes.
