Sane Over Network

In the Debian testing/Sid repositories there is the relatively new package sane-airscan. It works like driverless printing with a wireless network connection (see: https://wiki.debian.org/SaneOverNetwork). Setting up scanners under Linux can be really annoying and I think the sane-airscan package solves many of the related problems. I could not find the package in any repository provided by MX and I would appreciate if it could be made available.

Regards

What is your experience with this package? Did it get something to work that previously didn't? Do share :)

It was always annoying to set up my Brother printer/scanner. You had to download the proprietary drivers, install them via command line and had to do some additional tinkering and a whole lot of praying to get it working. Since driverless printing was introduced in Debian "Buster" my networked printer could be detected and worked out of the box using the IPP protocol. But that still wasn't the case with the scanner side of things. For example Document Scanner (formerly known as Simple-Scan) still wouldn't be able to detect the scanner. The sane-airscan package just solves this. Similar to driverless printing it makes driverless scanning possible for all devices that support Apple AirPrint/AirScan. It was a real relief for me when I found out it worked when running Debian testing or Fedora 32.

Second notice:

sane-airscan is now in the MX-19 Test Repo, you can install it using MX Package Installer > MX Test Repo tab

Debian seems to be updating this, a newer version is in Debian Sid now, but if requestors or other users aren't going to test and give us feedback... then there isn't much point in spending time trying to keep up when other packages are waiting to get done

This package Sane-Airscan , works well I have tested it on several scanners. I also use it when I share a Windows scanner with Linux using the solution at http://scannershare.com. That solution works for sharing a windows scanner with Linux , MacOS or android

@markosjal as it is your first post here and the software you linked to is somewhat relevant because it uses Sane-Airscan (and free for personal use), I'll let the post stand.

But be advised, soliciting software and services is not allowed on the forums, and please don't bump very old posts unless it is necessary.
