Looks reasonable to me, and he immediately got the main design point...its MX with a different desktop.
That makes me happy.

Re: DW reviews MX-19 KDE
I get the feeling he really likes MX. Most readers don't seem to realize he's not just another distro reviewer, he's the maintainer for SysV init. His depth of knowledge about the innards of GNU/Linux is profound.

Agreed DO, the KDE version no doubt has its roots firmly within the MX ecology and the chief reason to use one or the other (KDE/XFCE) must surely be personal preferencedolphin_oracle wrote: Sun Aug 23, 2020 9:27 pm Looks reasonable to me, and he immediately got the main design point...its MX with a different desktop.

I scrolled down and saw Swift Linux mentioned in the torrent section: https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=swift
If it's truly just MX with different wallpaper, why is DW giving it separate distro status?

Re: DW reviews MX-19 KDE
It isn't even much of a respin, really. They've taken standard MX, both Xfce and KDE versions, changed themes, and call it their own distro. That's edging close to being a violation of the terms of use, isn't it? https://mxlinux.org/terms-of-use/
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.

Re: DW reviews MX-19 KDE
It was originally a more independent distro that was in the DW top 100 in 2012 and used to get a fair amount of press, so it got its own page. As long as he keeps making releases, they won't have a reason to take his page down.Stevo wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2020 12:36 am I scrolled down and saw Swift Linux mentioned in the torrent section: https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=swift

IANAL but I took a few law classes, and it looks to my partially trained eye like he is sticking to the terms, as his About page is full of information about how it is an MX respin and how much he enjoys MX (https://www.swiftlinux.org/about/). Also, he's a member here who posts about his respins in the modified section - it's not like he's hiding or doing anything behind anyone's back. He's actually quite nice, and his releases have had a bit of a following for years.JayM wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2020 12:50 amIt isn't even much of a respin, really. Is he the guy who used to have another distro spin created in honour of another star?

Hannah Montana Linux wasn't originally his, but he took it over after it was abandoned. He announced his intention to revive Hannah Montana right here on this board, to Adrian's great delight: viewtopic.php?p=572328#p572328asqwerth wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2020 1:21 am Is he the guy who used to have another distro spin created in honour of another star?

Re: DW reviews MX-19 KDE
So it looks like this latest one is a tribute to Taylor Swift, based on the screenshot.
As long as he makes it clear that it's an unoffficial spin of MX, and i note he is very frank about the wallpapers being the only difference, I don't see any issues.
