The version of Zoom in the Popular Applications tab of the PI is out of date. One Facebook user has reported that Zoom can't be used until updated. (Haven't tested personally.) The only way to update suggested on the Zoom website is to install the latest .deb.
Would it be possible to update the version in the PI please? At least new users of Zoom won't then face that problem.
TIA
Chris

Re: Update Zoom
Can one just just go to MXPI and reinstall again from Popular Apps? I think the zoom entry in MXPI just points to Zoom's website and the latest deb there.

yes, zoom does not provide a repo. so to manually update, you gots to run the install again.asqwerth wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 2:01 pm Can one just just go to MXPI and reinstall again from Popular Apps? I think the zoom entry in MXPI just points to Zoom's website and the latest deb there.

Re: Update Zoom
Does the old version of Zoom have to be manually uninstalled first? If so, what is the best command?

Re: Update Zoom
nope, it will update ontop of its self. its a proper deb, they just don't have a repo.Antediluvian wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 8:44 pm Does the old version of Zoom have to be manually uninstalled first? If so, what is the best command?

Re: Update Zoom
Aha, I just added Zoom last night but the take away message seems to be that we need to manually check PI occasionally to determine when a newer version is available and 'reinstall' again, with a newer version. Zoom doesn't make things easier, but so be it. Cheers

Re: Update Zoom
I have been doing that all the time whenever I fire up my own laptop for Zoom meetings. If it's been awhile since I used Zoom on the lappy, I don't even bother to check the website and I just go ahead to reinstall from MXPI.
Other times I know an update is necessary from updating my Manjaro installation, since Zoom is provided there from the AUR and the package manager will notify you of AUR updates.

Re: Update Zoom
From what the Facebook user reported, the application self-checks, and will notify that an update is needed.tascoast wrote: Fri Aug 07, 2020 12:00 am Aha, I just added Zoom last night but the take away message seems to be that we need to manually check PI occasionally to determine when a newer version is available and 'reinstall' again, with a newer version.
