For my own fun I wrote a game of hearts. Not anywhere near so polished as the hearts game that comes with MX, but it does have a couple of not-so-usual game-play features, like being able to replay a hand and control the rate of play. It is developed in
Free Pascal using the
Lazarus IDE - on MX of course! It's free software (GPL). If interested, you can find out more on
my webpage.

I can't even remember the last time I played hearts let alone how to or I'd try it. I remember playing a few games of spades when I was in college but that was many snows ago.

I can't take credit for that or any of the other character artwork - they are public domain. But I did choose them for their "attitudes". I tried to make my own characters with an arctic theme, but it was pretty bad. I am incapable of drawing anything well, even with computer assistance. The amateurish icons and card back are mine. Spent most of my effort in the code where I was more at home.

Awesome, OG! I love hearts, but rarely get to play it in reality anymore. Any thought to add a cutthroat option?

Jay, I've discovered there is another use for this hearts game. Crank the slider over to the right for maximum speed and set it on autoplay (change the character to the robot). Start up 3 or 4 more instances of the game the same way. Now you've got an interesting screen display and a kind of load tester as the cpu usage percentage goes up.

I used to be part of a group that played quite regularly. There was always a lot of laughs and kibbitzing about card choices and missed plays. The computer game is fun, but a poor second.
I hadn't heard of a cutthroat option. After googling, it seems that it's a way to make the game shorter by going to 26 points instead of 100? Or is there another variation you have in mind? Doesn't seem too hard to add in.

For me, it was just 3 players, I believe. One card was left in the middle and the first heart trick winner got that.
But maybe I don't remember exactly, it was a little bit ago. I might be mixing it up with cutthroat canasta.
