What is your bios set to. If it's set to legacy mode then you get legacy boot.

Re: uefi
The MX ISO is capable of booting in either mode. Your firmware (BIOS or UEFI) dictates which mode it will boot into. Whichever mode it is booted in will be installed.
For UEFI boot go into the "bios" and for boot mode select UEFI Only. You also may want to disable CSM support, but that's not always necessary.
See this dolphin_oracle video on UEFI and MX.

It is possible to enable UEFI support in a non-UEFI system if you would prefer not to reinstall, let us know if you need instructions.

Re: uefi
I don't have a solution. I can only tell you that I decided to keep my BIOS set to Legacy since my computer does not see any foreign UEFI devices. It only sees Windows. I was able to use the "refind" app to get it to work but then a Windows update cause it to go back to seeing only Windows. So, I just threw up my hands and surrendered.
The MX LiveUSB does support UEFI booting. But some of our computers do not make it easy to see it.

Re: uefi
Depending on your firmware manufacturer you may need your live USB to be created with a gpt partition table rather than msdos before it will boot and install as a EFI device. Insyde's firmware on my Ideapad is that way.
You can boot your live USB, select toram in one of the option submenus on the boot menu screen (I think it's F2 but I'm not sure, you'll have to explore the F-key menus and find it), boot into MX on the live system, then run MX Live USB Maker. Click the Advanced Options button and select GPT. Then clone your running system back to your USB stick. It can overwrite what's on it without crashing because Linux is running entirely in memory, not from the USB stick anymore. Then if you reboot and press whatever key takes you to your system's boot menu (F12 on mine) you should see your USB as a UEFI boot device. It may be labelled Linpus Lite, but that's MX. Boot it and install in UEFI mode, after first setting your system back to UEFI-only and disabling Secure Boot if it's enabled.

@JayM,
If we use GPT for the LiveUSB can we boot that USB on any computer? I have my MX-19 LiveUSB setup using MSDOS instead of GPT. It won't boot as UEFI. But it boots in Legacy mode. I only have one UEFI laptop, all the rest of my systems are Legacy. If I switch to GPT as you outline here will this USB boot on the Legacy machines?
Thanks,
