I just found out that office 365 runs from the browser. Is there any reason it won't run on MX?

Should work, if it truly runs in a browser...

Office 365 is in the cloud. MS office is lokal.

Office 365 Online lets you view and edit Office documents for free in your web browser (like Google Docs, but from Microsoft). All the same apps—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote—are available. You do not need a subscription to use the online apps, although you will need to sign in with a free Microsoft account.

The Office 365 Online apps offer pretty much the same set of features you’d find in the mobile apps. The big difference (aside from being free) is that Office 365 Online does not offer offline access; you must be connected to the Internet to view and edit documents.

All three versions (desktop, mobile apps, and online) offer seamless integration with OneDrive, so keeping track of documents is easy when you move between platforms

I don't like that you have to be online to use it. Fail.

Just use Softmaker FreeOffice 2018 - it will open your MS Office files for you just fine. It's in the MX Package Installer, Popular Apps tab, under the "Office" category.

I don't think there is any true offline version of MS Office anymore. If you aren't connected to the internet for a few days, MS Office will start to nag you incessantly about not being able to validate your account (even after validating it) and about allowing it access to online updates. I think it might stop working if you leave it offline long enough. But if you must use it offline, you can run MS Office 365 with the Crossover Office version of wine, although it's an extreme CPU hog when running in wine.

it works, in some older Manjaro releases Office365 shortcuts were even in the panel by default.

As a way to support a little, unknown "underdog" I use the paid version of Softmaker Office in Windows and in Linux Mint (mainly Textmaker, though), and I can say that it works really nice.

Everyone should sure give FreeOffice a try (unless one is a puritan, when it comes to opensource - read: Richard Stallman :p ):

Please don't try to sway people all the time. If they want to use X and are asking if they can, reply to that only. Thank you.
