Why does encryption demand seperate boot partition on UEFI?

Why does LUKS encryption of root partition demand a seperate boot partition during installation? Isn't the ESP partition supposed to decrypt the root partition like in Arch and OpenSUSE? Is that a legacy thing or is that tied into how MX Linux works? Are there any plans to fix this? Thank you in advance.

Why do you think MX Linux should do what Arch and OpenSUSE do? Perhaps they should do it the way MX Linux does it (and other linux's).
Nothing to fix IMO.

Because I thought encrypting both root and boot is more secure.
