[SOLVED] YouTube tells me to update browser

Using an up-to-date Pale Moon, I get this at YouTube:
"We’ll stop supporting this browser soon. For the best experience please update your browser".
It seems to me I've seen stuff like this before, but my memory stinks.
Is this something to worry about?

YouTube is owned by Google. I wouldn't trust Google on what ever they say. If I was you I would ignore it. I bet their spyware doesn't work as well as they like on what you are using.

Normal actual helpful answer:

it could be that google (who owns youtube) is trying to get you to use a different browser than what you are doing now, likely Chrome.

You could see if another browser works better for you, or just ignore it and see what happens in due time.

many sites deprecate support from time to time for old browsers. It doesn't mean they browsers won't work necessarily, but its a possibility.

Palemoon is based on what, firefox 29? It happens.

I'm having no problem viewing videos, so for now, I'll just ignore it.
Thanks for the answers!

The next update will fix it, I'm busy building it:
Pale moon updated to 28.8.2.1 • Announcements 7 hours ago – This is a minor release in response to YouTube deprecating their old web UI. This change will enable the new YouTube UI by default.
Pale Moon currently forked from Firefox 52 ESR.

It's because of the useragent value that is read by some web sites when they do their so-called "browser sniffing".
That type of supposed "error message" has been an ongoing issue and Pale Moon forum topic for years.
AT&T, for example, was really bad about that. It can be really annoying and obnoxious!

Here are the about:config values:
  • from Pale Moon 28.8.2 64-bit

Preference Name ------------------------------- status - type - value
    general.useragent.override.youtube.com default string Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 PaleMoon/28.8.2
    -
  • from Pale Moon 28.8.2.1 64-bit

Preference Name ------------------------------- status - type - value
    general.useragent.override.youtube.com Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0 PaleMoon/28.8.2.1
As Stevo said, the latest release should fix that, for a while, at least.

Pale Moon has used the old YouTube web UI because it's faster and better in every way except lacking a dark mode. It was Pale Moon users that wanted to stay with the old YouTube UI as long as possible.

I personally won't switch to new YouTube UI before Google removes the old layout.

It's also worth noting that Pale Moon is one of the most serious non-corporate FOSS projects, right up there with antiX and MX Linux so baseless assumptions is basically trolling...
