Being new to Linux, I would be grateful for advice on how to keep my system properly maintained.I will, of course, be keeping regular backups, but best practice for maintaining the MX system would be very useful.

Many thanks.

Other than backup, in my case I simply update, and occasionally clean (not a must but a suggestion, that will avoid "inflation" with unnecessary temp files etc. Can use simply MX Cleanup or for more; Bleachbit).

Also after an update and some cleaning, taking a snapshot. (That makes everything so easy and enjoyable, either to reinstall when needed - and not start from zero-, and use as live-session for everything.. repairing also..)

(Up to you: whenever you like, once a month or so...)

Thank you for the advice. How would I take a snapshot?

Menu => MX Tools => MX Snapshot

Will create an .iso file of your whole current system. Then you can keep it anywhere and write on a usb (and preferably keep it so).. and start your own system as it is on the pc :) Fantastic. And able to install just like installing any distro . Moreover: on any pc with even different specs..

You're welcome :)

Just a real - live example is me at the moment:

The current MX I'm on (18.3) is my snapshot I reinstalled in July :) (For I spoiled everything at the end of June) Everything was back in just 15 min :D

Then I went on as if nothing happened ..
