Magicor game has a bug

#1 Post by calixtus06 »

Hello, my daughter used to play magicor but now it's impossible to move the penguin more than steps. I removed the game and re installed it . Nothing changed.

What has changed since the last time it worked? (FYI I just installed and tested it real quick and it works fine for me.) If you create a new user and log in with the new account do you still experience the problem?

Were you using an older version of MX on the machine the last time the game worked?

I noticed your steam repos are stated to be for Ubuntu's Precise Pangolin release. That was the 12.04 LTS release, which is way old. I have doubts about the compatibility with MX19, and that's before considering that MX is Debian-based, not Ubuntu.

Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

I just tried in in MX-19 and neither the up nor down keys work in the game, although they do in the options menu.

In fact, I don't know why I 've got this repository..I 'm going to remove it

Jay, if you start Egypt Level 2, can you go down through the pipes?

Not here.
It works properly on MX-15 & MX-17. The MX-17 deb doesn't work any better on MX-19
This game hasn"t been updated in a decade. I suspect something changed in python or sdl

I have no idea what that means. I just verified that I'm able to make the penguin move more than three steps without any lock-ups or crashes.

I say your right on that one.

Both the Magicor and Magicor Data files are needed to play. Additional requirements are:

python 2.4, http://www.python.org
pygame 1.7.1, http://www.pygame.org/
libsdl 1.2 (required by pygame), http://www.libsdl.org/
SDL_mixer, http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/
SDL_image, http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_image/
GNU make (or equivalent, optional for proper installation; not needed to run the game)
rsync (optional for making dist target; not needed to run the game)

Additional requirements for the editor:

GTK 2.0 http://www.gtk.org
libglade2 http://www.jamesh.id.au/software/libglade/
PyGTK http://www.pygtk.org

https://packages.debian.org/unstable/games/magicor

https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/magicor/filelist

Since this game base on a old NES game call Solomon's Key. I would just pickup a NES Emulator and play the original game instead this old unmaintained Linux version.
