Terminology: Installer vs. Live Media Boot Options menu

#1 Post by JayM »

There have been two or three help requests lately where people are reporting problems with the MX Installer, and a page or two of posts later we find out they're actually having trouble with booting from the Live USB or DVD. This is wasting a lot of time with actually getting people some help because they call things by incorrect names: hours or days are wasted while people try to help them with what we think is an installer issue when that's not even the case.

So to clarify:

THIS IS NOT THE INSTALLER:

This is (a rather poor and blurry picture of) the MX Linux live media's boot options menu. or simply "boot screen." If you call this the installer nobody will know what you're actually talking about and it will delay getting you help!

THIS IS THE INSTALLER:

This is the first screen of the MX Linux Installer which guides you through the procedure of installing MX onto your HDD or SSD. You have to run it by clicking on this icon on your Live System's desktop (outlined in red):

Hope this is helpful.
