Should be fine. falktx the developer of KX had an extended break this year but I hear he's back on board now.
I used KX repos for my MXStudio respin and found no issues so far and AVLinux uses them too.

Well, sorry, I tried to install the repositories following the KX Studio indications but I have a problem with dependencies, libc6:

From the FAQ page on the MX Website:
Can I use Ubuntu PPAs?

Ubuntu is not Debian, so installing PPAs will likely cause problems. See this for more details: https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/add-ppa-repository
Solution: Go to the request forum for your MX version, under Community Repository (CR), and ask our Packaging Devs if the PPA can be be ported or updated for our own repository
This goes for adding repositories as well. To request new or updated software packages be added to the MX Repositories, please read these instructions. then post your request here. Meanwhile I strongly suggest that you remove the repository you added before the MX Update tool pulls in who knows what from it and breaks your MX installation.

Libc6 is in synaptic or you can download the .deb from here: https://pkgs.org/download/libc6

Following this advice to continue installing things you find on the internet and/or download .deb files and install them WILL break your system sooner or later. I've seen it before. Let the MX Packagers package the app or apps that you want for MX then install it from the MX repos with MX Package Installer.

@JayM: do you really think that https://kx.studio/Repositories is not to be trusted? (Note this is not a criticism but a learning phase)

Do a search of this forum for KXStudio.

I seem to recall some instructions or information relating Debian-based, not Ubuntu-based repo for this.

I suspect you need to make sure you choose a repo that is compatible with DEbian Stretch. The libc6 version differences seem quite indicative to me of a Ubuntu repo that is not quite compatible with Debian Stretch.

What asqwerth said. If their repos are for the current stable version of Debian, which is Buster, they won't be compatible with MX 18.3, which is based on Debian oldstable, Stretch. If they add dependencies to try to make their apps work those are going to break MX 18. Let the MX packaging team do the "heavy lifting" and see if they can make the app or apps that are wanted work using the Stretch libraries and whatnot, or verify that the KX Studio repos are safe for MX. Either that or wait until MX-19, which is based on Buster, to be released later this year.

You could also contact the Dev of KX Studio and ask if he is still maintaining his older repo for Debian Stretch.

Friends, to many doubts now...

Apparently KX repos have been updated and are now compatible with Buster, not Stretch. This wasn't the case until very recently so are not compatible with MX18 but will be for MX19. I apologise for incorrect advice as they were totally working for MX18 last I used them.

From https://kx.studio/Repositories -
The KXStudio repositories support all Debian versions since 10 (Buster) and Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic) or above.
They should work on all Debian-based distributions and variants.

Too bad, then. It would be nice if they or someone also did them on the OBS, which supports builds for lots of different releases of Debian and Ubuntu. I'm building a newer Mesa there for someone on Debian Buster to see if that helps get their Intel 9th gen GPU working--if it does, I may also backport it for our test repo to support new hardware:

https://build.opensuse.org/project/show ... ort-buster

Of course, the KX repos should also be compatible with MX 19 now.

Yes indeed. The older repos are still there but as implied in the quote in my previous post, are not supported.

You could add the unsupported repos, or just pick and download packages you want and install with gdebi or apt.
Or do what I do and have a separate partition with AVLinux which still has the old KX repos activated by default but I guess you won't get updates for packages from there now.
I plan to do a fresh MXStudio respin once MX19 is released and after a suitable period for any release bugs to be squashed. Most of its dedicated audio production packages come from KX and the KX repos are active by default. The testing is extensive on the MX19 beta versions currently so I expect it will be relatively bug-free on release.

In that case I'm gonna wait for MX19. Or better, for your MXStudio :)

another linux newbie/ frustrated musician here trying to set up some recording software.

I installed MX 19 a little while back, and am really liking it as an operating system. Some years ago I had used kxstudio and thought that mostly it worked very well and have followed some of the posts here but am still not finding a way to add the kxstudio repos to mx19.

I'm still struggling to learn to work in a terminal; so I'm hoping that someone can give me some clear instructions on a) where to find the repositories and b) how to add and install them.

Thanks

So it looks like all the information you are asking for is right here
https://kx.studio/Repositories
I would read this page BEFORE you do the next step either way looks like it has the basic stuff covered with additional links too

a) BUT it looks like the developer of KXStudio actually made a package you can install and it will do all the hard work for you.
https://launchpad.net/~kxstudio-debian/ ... .3_all.deb

Once you download the .deb file above > Right Click it > in the menu towards the bottom > select "Install Deb Files"

b) Then you should be able to find the packages and choose which ones to install using Synaptic (in Whisker menu).

The developer states at the first link I gave you:
Once you have the repos installed, you can either manually install individual packages from them or add the meta-packages to automatically install large sets of recommended packages.
See the Meta-Packages page for more details.
In either case, we always recommend to install the kxstudio-default-settings package after enabling the repositories.
Hope that answers the majority of the things you need, if not someone with KXStudio experience hopefully sees this thread creep back up to the top soon.
