[SOLVED] What would be the easiest to play 8 bit games on MX?
[SOLVED] What would be the easiest to play 8 bit games on MX?
I mean without installing retroarch, lakka...etc... Is there an easy setup to play some select SNES, Atari, and C-64 games?
Or is it just better to do it on my Raspberry Pi (easier)?
It's just would very convenient to do it from MX.
Thanks.

I built some of the SNES stuff lately but haven't totally got it all working yet. If it were raining I'd work on it.
When I get time, I'll dig into it. I thought I was the only one that liked the retro games.

I love retro games because they remind of my childhood!
Please let me know If you get anywhere.

There are some retro game emulators in the main and test repository, such as mame. Searching for those terms in Synaptic will bring them up. You can use repology.org to see what we have in the repos, too.

Easy way for me in the past.
https://www.dosgamesarchive.com/
Tell it open downloaded file in folder with dosbox < default antix app in full iso >
Maximise my screen and play away.
On a IBM T23 with no sse2 support on a P3 cpu.
I realize it is not the same format.
Might not even apply to this thread.
But if I can figure it out. I figure anyone can.

The SNES9X emulator used to be in the main repos. I downloaded a copy of the .deb file long ago for when/if I need it again. To play NES games, Nestopia works very well..
Life's tough, it's tougher if you're stupid...

Mame & Mess are the two main 8bit emulator programs in the repos but I preferred Vice for running my old C=64 programs (also in the repos).

That's cool. The Vic Emulator, I suppose. The
C-64 was my intro to PCs. Had some great games that even I, a non-gamer, got drawn into. Many happy hours spent.
Maybe, just maybe...

mame seems to be the only one of the 3 that launches. Do you know where we get the source for mess?timkb4cq wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2019 5:20 pm Mame & Mess are the two main 8bit emulator programs in the repos but I preferred Vice for running my old C=64 programs (also in the repos).
